    Enough is Enough

    Picture 273

Picture taken in June, from me front porch, looking down our street.  (The water rose even higher that night.)

Just when you think that things just can't get any worse, they always do.  Pessimistic, you say?  Damn right!

As you know, from reading the few blogs I have posted, we were flooded this past June.  We are recovering from that, slowly but getting there.  (No thanks to no one showing up to give us any estimates.)  We have also experienced lots of sickness in me family this year, in part, due to allergies, probably from the flooding.  Me husband has had many stomach ailments.  The doctors are trying to discover exactly what is the problem.  Now, me father, who lives on the east coast, had emergency open heart surgery, apparently resulting in a quadruple bypass.  From what the hospital tells us, he is doing very well for the seriousness of his condition.  We have been advised by the staff there and me dad's identical twin brother that we should wait to fly out there after the hospitalization is all over with, because he will need us more then.  Me mind knows this is probably for the best, but try telling me heart that.  ~sigh

    'ello, all,

Sorry, I had intended to at least blog once per week.  As you can see, that didn't happen.

We are still waiting for some contracter, construction worker, foundation expert, handyman, someone who knows about basement walls and steps, etc. to find time to look at our basement for suggestions and estimates.

    catwaiting

If anyone, in north central Iowa reads this and can give me a name of some one to look at our basement, and some way to contact these names, please reply to me blog!!!!

    Ramblings

What a summer this has been.  I can't believe that August is here.  Seems like only yesterday, that we had 6 feet of water in our basement, lapping at the floorboards of our first floor.  In fact, twas almost 2 months ago.

We were much luckier than some.  Our basement is, in fact, only a basement.  We even have to go outside to go to our basement.  It has a limestone foundation in the old part of the house, and cinder block, shiny blocks of some sort and brick in the new part of the house.  Yes, we did have some loss (new furnace and water heater, canned goods, fishing supplies, canning supplies, gardening stuff) but very minor when you see how others have lost almost everything.  Two houses on our street lost basement walls.  (We do have one wall that may need to be repaired.)  And after the tornado that came thru Parkersburg (just 20 minutes away), one finds a new respect for basements.  So we clean, repair, throw away and replace.   (This is the first time in over 150 years that river water has been in this house.)  And wonder will the river flood again?

    'ello, 'ello, 'ello!

Taking a small break, from the real world, to post a note.  The real world is not what it is cracked up to be, either, I might add.

'ave you ever started a project and wish to bloody 'ell you had never even started it?  That is where I am at with me kitchen project.  We 'ad the great idea that we could strip the old latex paint off our cheap plywood cupboards.  We 'ave found this is not a great idea, in fact, 'as become a messy, dirty, time consuming, rotten, f'ing idea.  The first cupboard stripped very well, but the next two.....not at all.  I foresee that by August we will still be stripping cabinets.  Oh to have money and just have someone come in, gut the kitchen, and 'ave all new cupboards....  Dream on!

Ok, I must now return to the real world.  I will sincerely try to take a break more often.

Today was a pretty good day.  I remembered to set me clocks ahead the required hour.  I managed to get meself up on time and made it to church, on time.  Pretty good!

Then I decided that perhaps it was time to update me Norton's.  The message had been popping up for almost 2 weeks, so take an hour and update.  The "take an hour" is the operative word here.

The renewal center is an interesting place.  Once you get there, decisions, decisions, decisions.  First, do you want to renew or update.  They even have comparisons, side by side, and tours of these comparisons.  Then if you decide to update, which update would you like to use.  More decisions.  Ok, I have made me mind up to update and have actually decided on which update.  (BTW, an hour has passed.)  Now do you want to download or purchase the product.  Once again, go into the comparison site so you can made a decision.  I decide to download.  Now, how do you want to pay for this download!  ARGH!  I decide and start the download process.  OK!

Well, needless to say, the download process was not what I expect either.  It literally takes over an hour, and you have to be close to your computer so you can fill in the required prompts.  Finally, the download is complete.  Installation!!  This takes an additional 30 minutes.  Follow the prompts, which says to run live update and then scan your computer.  Not all of the live update wants to load.  Go to the help center.  Restart the computer, says help, and try live update once again.  This works ( thank goodness) but once again, restart your computer.  Now I can scan my computer!   Hurrah!!

Ok, this has taken over 2 1/2 hours!  I go have some supper, while the scanning is happening.

I return, nothing is found and I get on the net.  No problem.  Check me one email account.  Go onto Yahoo.  Yahoo is working fine.  So far, so good.  Ahhh, me bookmarks are here.  ACK!  I can't open another window with bookmarks!!   I play with this for 20 minutes.  I go into help with Yahoo and Nortons, to no avail!  I am getting pissed.  I know how to open everything I want the other way, but opening bookmarks is sooo much easier.  I step away and watch some tv.

I am now back, it has occurred to me I had popup blockers before this version of Nortons.  Aha!!!  The google one is causing the problem.  I turn it off, and viola, I can open things from me bookmarks, in another window, just like before.   I have now been working on updating me computer for almost 5 hours!

For now, I will just turn off the popup blocker.  Perhaps tomorrow I will uninstall the google one as it is the problem.  Wonder how long that will take?                brightidea131313131414           th_bloodyhell
